Vujanovic sent a letter to Stankovic: Medojevic to remain free pending trial
Montenegrin president Filip Vujanovic sent a letter to the supreme state prosecutor Ivica Stankovic asking him to issue an instruction to the chief special prosecutor Milivoje Katnic suggesting that there is no need for putting Democratic Front (DF) leader Nebojsa Medojevic in custody and that he may remain free pending trial.
“Bearing in mind that he is an MP, that his parliamentary immunity has been lifted and that his presence can be ensured without custody, the president sent a letter to supreme state prosecutor Ivica Stankovic and suggested issuing an instruction to the chief special prosecutor Milivoje Katnic that there is no need for remanding Medojevic in custody and that he may remain free pending trial,” the Vujanovic’s office said in a statement.
According to the statement, Vujanovic spoke to Medojevic on the phone this morning and the DF leader told him that he would respect the prosecutor’s and court’s summoning and that he would do nothing to avoid or hinder the conduct of criminal proceedings.
DF MPs have been in Parliament since Thursday, when the parliament lifted Medojevic’s immunity.
Special State Prosecutor’s Office suspects Medojevic of money laundering.
