Sanja Vlahovic is new ambassador to Italy
Former minister of science Sanja Vlahovic will be the new ambassador of Montenegro to Rome, the foreign minister Srdjan Darmanovic said appearing on the Nacisto TV show.
Asked how it comes that a person who was accused of plagiarism is appointed, Darmanovic said that the university and the court had not confirmed that Vlahovic had committed plagiarism, Mina reports.
“She is honoured in Italy, she was a good minister and I think she will be a good ambassador to Rome,” Darmanovic said.
Speaking of political tensions with Russia, Darmanovic said that they did not have to affect the economic relations and relations among citizens.
According to him, in the last two or three years, radicalisation of opposition to NATO membership has erupted. It has become increasingly violent in its form, which external forces have contributed to.
“As it was the case with Slobodan Milosevic, in the last two to three years, with increasing influence of much larger political players, the radicalisation has come under the principle ‘when you have someone strong behind you, then you are looking for your chance on the inner scene’,” said Darmanovic, the Vijesti news portal reports.
Speaking of NATO membership, he said that Montenegro’s desire to enter the alliance coincided with the geopolitical situation.
Darmanovic pointed out that Montenegro, regardless of geopolitics, had to implement all the necessary reforms in order to get its place in NATO.
“Not all NATO members are the same. The member states do not have the same quality of democratic order and they are not equal economic powers,” said Darmanovic.
He also claims that there are a number of countries where ruling parties have been in power longer than it is the case in Montenegro.
“Those who voted for independence knew that Montenegro would join NATO at some point. We want to have normal and good relations with Russia as well as other NATO and European Union member states. Our commitment to Euro-Atlantic integration has never been questionable,” Darmanovic said.
He pointed out that Montenegro’s direction had never been vague and that it had constant support from the US authorities.
“Regarding Serbia, the relations between Montenegro and Serbia are good, and that is a fact. Serbia is our biggest economic partner. Political relations are good,” Darmanovic said.
When it comes to Kosovo, he said that he believes the demarcation agreement will be ratifies regardless of who will form Kosovo government.
