Montenegro Airlines brings €150-200m to tourism industry
The national airline Montenegro Airlines (MA) had almost 230,000 passengers on its regular, charter and code share flights in the first six months of this year, which is at the same level as last year. The business result for the first six months of this year is by €1.6m better compared to the same period in 2016, the company stated. It added that MA’s annual contribution to the tourism industry of Montenegro was between €150m and €200m.
As the company explained, the result was achieved by optimising operations at all levels, with almost 200 flights fewer in regular and charter transport and one aircraft less in the fleet compared to last year, as well as with increased offer in code shared transport.
“Of the 300,000 passengers that we planned to transport during the summer tourist season, 1 June – 30 September, MA transported 63,000 passengers in June, which is more than 800 passengers more compared to June last year. It should also be noted that the company transported a third of the total number of passengers at Montenegrin airports in the aforementioned period. This result is especially significant given the fact that 38 other airlines have operated from Montenegro since May,” the company said.
The MA plans to carry more than 550,000 passengers per direction in 2017 amid optimisation in the fleet and business in general.
The company also stated that unfounded and arbitrary judgments in the media that the state-owned airline was at the brink of bankruptcy, ie shutting down and being taken over by another company, are harming the MA, making doing business more difficult.
“Because of our passengers, business partners and the general public, we want to announce that these are speculations and that only achievable results are trustworthy. The company functions normally, fulfils all its obligations, achieves good business results and the same situation will continue in the upcoming period in spite of all external and internal aggravating circumstances that the company has successfully coped with,” MA stated.
