The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Milutin Simovic, said that further support of the World Bank (WB) would contribute significantly to the development of agricultural production and rural areas by boosting employment, creating added value in food production and links with other sectors.

He met today with the WB Country Manager for Montenegro, Tatiana Proskuryakova.

“A mutual commitment of the Government of Montenegro and WB to continuing close cooperation in the field of agriculture was expressed at the meeting,” the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development says in a press release.

According to the Ministry, the results achieved in previous joint projects focusing on institutional development strengthening of Montenegrin agriculture, such as MIDAS and IPARD-like, provide a good basis for further successful cooperation.

Proskuryakova expressed her satisfaction with the meeting with Simovic, saying that the implementation of the MIDAS and IPARD-like projects in cooperation with the Ministry had been very successful.

She reminded that additional funding for the MIDAS project has been approved, adding that the WB was willing to develop new and larger projects in cooperation with the Government of Montenegro.
