The green Southern Soul Festival begins tomorrow

“This summer, when you visit Montenegro, reduce your carbon footprint – and if you come to the Southern Soul Festival – Jazz on, Rock on Greenly!”, the organizers of the Southern Soul Festival say.

This summer, the Southern Soul Festival marks 5th anniversary with a very diverse selection of performers. Known as one of the most beautiful intimate boutique festivals in Europe, with a unique atmosphere on the sandy beach Velika Plaza (Long Beach), the Southern Soul Festival will run from 29 June to 2 July 2017. The music performances will take place in three festival stages.

The Southern Soul festival joined the family of green festivals in Montenegro by taking part in the “Reduce your Carbon Footprint. Jazz on, Greenly” campaign conducted by UNDP and the Ministry of Sustainable Development and Tourism. Green music festivals all over Europe are becoming a norm and there are efforts to create an environmentally sustainable festival industry.

How will Southern Soul, as well as other green festivals, reduce its environmental impact this year? The goals are:

– to reduce the amount of waste in festival camps;
– to achieve a high rate of waste recycling;
– to raise awareness and knowledge of climate change and environmental protection;
– to promote green transport.

Always committed to progress and novelties in order to improve the experience of their audience, the Southern Soul Festival has a surprise this year: the festival venue has been reorganised to include a new chill out zone and a restaurant, a vinyl exchange (developed in cooperation with publishing houses and vinyl shops from London, Paris and Berlin), as well as improved sound on all three stages.

In order for the festival to sustain our spirit of the intimate festival and to preserve the comfort for all visitors on the Velika Plaza, the number of tickets per day is limited to 2,500.

The line-up has already been announced – Makaya McCraven, Sun Ra Arkestra, Byron the Aqarius, Eumir Deodato, Amp Fiddler, Atjazz and others will be joined by LLORCA, the famous French producer, JAZZCAT, mixcloud sensation from Italy, DJ KAWASAKI, the famous Japanese house DJ, MAFALDA, rising star among female DJs as well as the legendary British Funk-Soul band from the 70’s CYMANDE.

It makes sense – rock bands such as Rolling Stones, Coldplay, Radiohead have long been the most important messengers and promoters of environmentally friendly way of thinking.

Visit Montenegro this summer and calculate your carbon footprint! Jazz on Greenly!
