Charging electric cars in Podgorica free of charge for one year
The first charging point for electric vehicles has been put into operation in Podgorica. It’s placed in front of the Podgorica Assembly and it’s first of the three charging stations planned for the capital. The use of public electric vehicle charging station will be free of charge during the first year.
According to the latest data, there are 106 electric cars registered in Montenegro.
Permanent representative at UNDP in Montenegro, Ms Daniela Gasparikova, stressed that the first public charging point for electric vehicles would boost further development of charging infrastructure across the country. “By the end of October two more charging points will be installed in Podgorica and by the end of the year a total of eleven will be installed in Montenegro” she said.
The transport sector accounts for almost a quarter of greenhouse gas emissions, and this is the area that needs changes the most.
“The Montenegrin transport system currently accounts for 20% of the national greenhouse gas emissions. If pollution by emissions keeps increasing in this way, estimations say it will make up to 30% of the national greenhouse gas emissions,” Ms Gasparikova emphasised.
In her opinion, electric-vehicle charging soon will become as simple as charging smartphones.
Electric cars are the driving solution of the future that offers many benefits – less pollution, reduced CO2 emissions, reduced noise levels, increased energy efficiency, fossil fuel independence.
Mayor of Podgorica Mr Ivan Vuković, said that installation of the first charging point for electric vehicles represents a huge step forward for Podgorica and the whole country.
