Boka night in Kotor
One more reason to visit Kotor in August is the so-called Boka night or Bokeljska Noc, characterized by loud parties, breathtaking fireworks, and traditional boat parades.
Traditional event Boka Night, that is part of non material cultural heritage of Boka Kotorska, will take place on Saturday, 19th of August at 21h.
The event got its name after the Boka Bay where Kotor is located. The tradition is pretty old; the first festivals were organized in the 19th century or maybe even earlier.
Boka’s night is a manifestation which gathers thousands of visitors every year, after which the town of Kotor became well known beyond the borders of Montenegro for its creativity and the spirit of the citizens of Kotor. It is a kind of masquerade of originally decorated colorful boats that cruise along the Bay of Kotor.
During Boka’s Night people from Bay of Kotor decorate small boats and participate in a procession hoping to win the special award for the most creative and beautiful boat. After the best participants have been chosen, the celebration continues in the streets of the Old town, followed by firework.
