Better regional connectivity necessary
The Minister of Transport and Maritime Affairs, Osman Nurkovic, said in Brussels that the Western Balkan countries needed better connections amongst each other and with the EU member states to boost regional competitiveness and employment.
He said that one of the goals of the EU accession process was to improve connectivity within the Western Balkans, which would result in economic growth and development, stimulated by investments and harmonization of regulatory reforms.
At the invitation of the European Commissioner for Transport, Violeta Bulc, he participated in the annual meeting of the transport ministers, held under the Memorandum of Understanding on the Development of the South East Core Network.
According to a press release issued by the Ministry, he said that the transport safety was high on the list of priorities of the new Government, announcing the drafting of a new law on roads for the next year.
Nurkovic thanked the European Commission on its support and the efforts jointly taken in the previous several months in order to create conditions to initiate a Treaty establishing a Transport Community for the Western Balkans, which was strongly supported by Montenegro.
