Antigua and Barbuda PM on introducing economic citizenship with Montenegro

Antigua and Barbuda PM on introducing economic citizenship with Montenegro

Prime minister Dusko Markovic and his counterpart from Antigua and Barbuda Gaston Browne agreed that tiny countries such as Montenegro and Antigua and Barbuda have enough room to cooperate on global issues like climate change. As they said, today’s meeting should mark the beginning of direct cooperation between the two countries.

The two officials have met today during the 2017 Global Citizen Forum that is being held at Sveti Stefan.

Markovic thanked Browne for coming to Montenegro and expressed the solidarity of our country with the people of Antigua and Barbuda who were recently hit by the hurricanes Irma and Mary and suffered catastrophic destruction.

“Although Montenegro is on the other hemisphere of the Earth, we have a lot in common,” Browne said.

The two PMs said that the countries with tourism dominating their economies can cooperate both in exchanging experiences and attracting renowned investors.

Browne encouraged Montenegro to implement the plan of introducing economic citizenship, saying that in the four years after his country launched a similar programme, it has managed to attract significant investments by improving its offer, as well as to diversify the economy.

“Today, 20% of our GDP is based on the result of our decision to introduce economic citizenship,” Browne said, adding that the project produced no negative consequences.
