Abu Dhabi’s Etihad signs codeshare with Montenegro Airlines – Gulf Business

Abu Dhabi carrier Etihad Airways has signed its third codeshare deal of the week after penning an agreement with Montenegro Airlines.

The move comes as speculation surrounds the future of the carrier’s European holdings and the position of its group president and CEO James Hogan.

Under the codeshare deal, Etihad’s EY code will be placed on Montenegro Airlines’ flights between Belgrade and Montenegro’s capital Podgorica and the town of Tivat on the Adriatic coast.

In return Montenegro Airlines will place its YM code on Etihad’s daily flights between Belgrade and Abu Dhabi.

Etihad said the deal would increase business and leisure travel to the country.

“Travellers in Montenegro can now reach our Abu Dhabi hub with a convenient one-stop connection in Belgrade, from where they can access key destinations in our global network with greater ease. In turn, Etihad Airways will expand its travel offer to Montenegro, an increasingly popular business and tourism destination,” said Gregory Kaldahl, Etihad Airways senior vice president of network.

Flights under the codeshare can booked now via travel agents or the two carriers’ websites and services will begin from January 9, 2017, if the deal receives government regulatory approval.

Yesterday, Etihad also announced a codeshare deal with Tanzania’s Precision Air and on Sunday with German airline Lufthansa.

This week it also said it would be cutting jobs to reduce costs

The airline said it was operating in an “increasingly competitive landscape,” against a backdrop of “weakened global economic conditions.”
