Ulcinj Riviera to get new look by May

The Karisma Hotels&Resorts company, as the long-term Ulcinjska Rivijera land and facilities lessee, is to complete the first stage of the Holiday Village Montenegro project at the Velika Plaza beach by May 2018. After that, visitors will have 257 new rooms, four swimming pools and two restaurants at their disposal. By the end of May 2019, the company plans to build additional 100 rooms.

According to the Karisma Hotels&Resorts development director Nemanja Kostic, the company will hire additional 100 employees. The project is to be developed through three stages, worth €32.1m in total. It will be family-oriented and based on entertainment and sport.

In the third phase, for which the time schedule has not been set yet, an additional 115 rooms will be built. Thus, there will be the total of 600 accommodation units, which is agreed within lease agreement signed by government representatives with the leaders of Karisma Hotels&Resorts ten days ago. The complex will also include sports courts and aqua-parks for children.

Kostic also said that there will be four new flights to the Podgorica airport, adding that Montenegro has a diversified offer and that Ulcinj, with the Velika Plaza and Ada Bojana, is the biggest development potential in Europe.

Karisma Hotels&Resorts owns 29 hotels, including those in Croatia, Mexico, the Dominican Republic and Jamaica, generates about €400m in annual income and employs 8,500 workers. It cooperates with the TUI Group, the world’s largest tour operator, which will also come to Montenegro.

Minister of tourism and sustainable development Pavle Radulovic said that cooperation with Karisma is important not only for Ulcinjska Rivijera, its workers and residents of Ulcinj, but for the entire Montenegro and its tourism.

“Although there have been many articles criticising the company in the media, the Karisma Group shows and proves its capacities. In a very complex tender process, they leased the land and existing facilities of Ulcinjska Rivijera for a 30 year period. It will invest at least €31.5m in it,” said Radulovic.

According to him, in the first two years, a €16.5m investment is planned, within which the existing facilities of the Hotel Bellevue and Olympic will be reconstructed to at least four star level.

The ceremony, which was held at the Hilton Hotel, was attended by parliament speaker Ivan Brajovic, deputy parliament speaker and former minister of tourism and sustainable development Branimir Gvozdenovic, as well as the leaders of the Municipality of Ulcinj.
